PodCamp AZ 2008 - Nov. 1-2, 2008
Tomorrow, we are attending PodCampAZ. PodCamp is a FREE BarCamp-style community, an ad-hoc gathering with discussions, demos and interaction from participants for podcasters and listeners, bloggers and readers, and anyone interested in New Media. That's a mouthful, but if you break it down, it equates to a bunch of nerds getting together to collaborate on ideas. That sounds like an awesome weekend. So, we signed up.

Not sure where Adobe is going with this ColdFusion campaign
In the past, Adobe has received some criticism about not promoting or advertising its ColdFusion application server framework. So, in an effort to combat that critisicm, Adobe launched a new campaign. And that campaign...features the Governator. Yes, that's right, Adobe recruited the likes of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to help get the word out on power of ColdFusion. Or, as they put it, to help"programmers be significantly less girlie."

what is gangplank? and how do we collaborate?
As a result of Startup Weekend Phoenix, the nerds at Brice Cheddarn have been even more motivated than usual. And a lot of that has to do with meeting a lot of cool people with goals and skills like ours. For awhile, we were starting to think the PHX tech market was as dry as the weather. In the two years of our existence as a legal entity in this state, we had only run across a handful of like minded web nerds that we could collaborate with. The search for our fellow developers and entrepreneurs produced little results. Until Startup Weekend, that is.

startup weekend phoenix - from a nerd's perspective
Finally, something cool for us nerds came to Phoenix. On October 17-19, 2008, Startup Weekend came to town. For those of you who don't know, Startup Weekend is an intense event bringing like-minded tech professionals together to create companies, projects and communities. It blends developers and entrepreneurs together. Roughly 100 people gathered at Gangplank in Chandler to pitch ideas, form teams and get down to business developing products. Oh ya, this is done in 54 hours.
About 30 or so ideas were pitched Friday night. If the idea was chosen (received enough votes from the group), these products would be developed into actual products over the weekend. Ideas ranged from healthcare applications, web apps for kids to find science projects, and apps to match human personalities to dogs.
